How appropriate! I write for a blog by the name of Divine Detour. And, I am about to experience a major detour in my life.

Those of you who have been through health detours know how scary they can be. We ask, “Why Lord?” We shed buckets of tears. Our BP goes up and our ability to cope goes down. We feel alone, cry out for an answer, and wonder where our God has gone.

Truth is He is right there with us—as always. It may not feel like it. But rest assured, He is there.

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Be not be terrified; don’t be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9 NIV

He assures us that He knows the plans He has for us, and that includes each and every detour we may go through. He tells us to be courageous; not to worry, because He will be with us and keep us safe.

The Lord will fulfill His purpose for me; your love, O Lord, endures forever—do not abandon the works of your hands. Psalm 138:8 NIV

As we rest in His arms, we will find His peace. As we study His word, our troubled hearts do not fear. We find our strength in His quietness and trust.

In repentance and rest, is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength. Isaiah 30:15 NIV

We need not fear… illness, death, financial troubles, or the evil in our world today.

Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. Isaiah 43:1-2 NIV

Whatever lies ahead, God will guide and provide. He will make the rough places smooth.

I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them. I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them. Isaiah 42:16 NIV

Indeed, God will not forsake us. And that is where my focus must be. I didn’t choose this detour. But God will provide everything. Including Jesus Christ, my Savior.

Yes, Jesus is with me—with you—always!
