Let’s talk about The Rescue (All Roads Publishing, September 2019). Is this your first historical? What prompted the idea for the story?
The Rescue is my first historical romance and it’s the first book in the All Roads Lead to Texas series. I’m excited to share this story with you and your readers.
What prompted the idea for this story was my love of history and Texas. My husband and I lived in Texas for several years, which inspired my interest in small-town life, ranching, cowboys, and how our great nation expanded west.
Please tell us about the book—and the forthcoming series!
I’d love to, Kathy! Here’s the blurb for my new release The Rescue.
Sometimes the path to freedom is found in an unexpected future.
Upon the death of her mother, Rosalind Standford’s life shatters, the pieces scattering to the wind when she is forced into a betrothal to a cunning banker. But when a telegram arrives announcing the man who captured her heart is on a train to Boston, Rosalind must hide her true feelings before the thin cord of her existence unravels the deadly secrets she keeps.
Cowboy Trent Easton returns to his roots in Boston society to find his childhood friend, the love of his heart. Instead he finds a broken woman engaged to a man close to her father’s age. Though she once rejected him, when Trent learns she’s in danger, he determines to do whatever it takes to keep her safe—even taking her to the altar in the black of night. But will his name and the remote wilds of his Texas ranch be enough to protect her? Or will freedom cost them their lives?
Next summer you can expect to see the second historical romance book from the All Roads Lead to Texas series entitled The Proposal. And late fall I plan to release another story entitled Love on a Dime. This is a contemporary story, but it will tie into The Rescue and The Proposal. Then spring 2021, the last story in the All Roads Lead to Texas series entitled The Bargain will release.
Want another sneak peek about the series? Each heroine in the series is from a different part of the country, and for various reasons, is drawn to Texas where cowboys, longhorns, and open ranges rule the land.
I remember when we met at an ACFW conference quite a few years ago. Since then, it has been fun to watch your success! Conferences are one of an author’s best opportunities for learning and networking. What’s your favorite conference experience?
I will never forget it, Kathy! We were sitting together at dinner and it was announced you were receiving your first contract. What an exciting time!
I’d have to say my favorite experience was my first ACFW conference. Meeting my critique partners for the first time, the laughs—even after my pitch appointments when I couldn’t breathe, we shared our experiences and the laughs continued. Even the chocolate party at Lena Nelson Dooley’s hotel room was memorable. There’s nothing better than sharing memories with dear friends.
If you didn’t write Christian fiction, what would you write?
Over the years, I’ve written Bible studies that have been translated and published in different languages by Christ to the World Ministries. I’d probably return to writing for them full-time. But honestly, I can’t see myself not writing Christian fiction. It’s who I am. : )
Thanks, Tanya! It’s great to have you back at Divine Detour.
Thanks for having me, Kathy!
