A person can’t help but wonder if we are living in the end times. Signs and events are occurring that seem to shout out to us that the end is near. Reading Jesus’ words in Luke 21 (as well as Matthew 24 and Mark 13) bring us pause as we realize that He could very well be speaking of the times we are now living in.

And

[Jesus] said (Luke 21:8-28 KJV selected):

Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them…

We seem to be surrounded by an ever-increasing number of false teachers and preachers, both Christian and non-Christian.

But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by….

Tensions abound in the Middle East, Korea, Afghanistan, Russia, to name only a few.

Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: …

Internet fraud and breaches of security build distrust and create havoc for innocent people while immigration laws divide nations, states, and even families.

And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; …

An 8.1 earthquake recently shook Mexico as famine and disease plague the Sudan and other places. Wildfires destroy homes and property while drought destroys crops and food supplies.

But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute you …And ye shall be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death. And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake….

Christians are ridiculed, face censorship, meet violence. God’s name is taken in vain, prayer is taken out of schools, and the truth of God’s Word is challenged daily.

And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; …

A total solar eclipse awed thousands. Red moons arouse fear. Disturbances in the weather speak to us, yet we fail to listen.

The sea and the waves roaring; …

Hurricanes Harvey and Irma devastated the lives of millions.

… Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

Indeed, we are at a time when our hearts fail as we look at the things that are occurring in our world, in our nation, in our homes. Christians feel the powers of heaven being shaken. And we wonder …… Can the end be far away?

Years ago, I read that every generation experiences signs that point to the end. The purpose is to keep us looking to the Lord — for the Lord. For one day, the signs will bring the end, and we will look up and see the Son of Man coming in the clouds.

And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

We don’t know when that last day will come, but until it does, we can look up and thank God that our redemption draweth nigh.

And all God’s children say: “Come, Lord Jesus.”
