The heavens declare the glory of God, the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. Their voice goes out into all the earth; their words to the ends of the world. ~ Psalm 19:1-4 NIV
It was a cool morning and I was hurrying to take a walk. My head was down in everything until I finally walked out the door, and I looked up and froze. I uttered ooh’s and awe’s as I stared at the clouds. I had never seen them like this.
They looked as if God and His angels had scattered marshmallows all over the sky. And not just in the direction of the rising sun, but in all directions. And puffy? Oh, my. I could turn around and around until I was dizzy looking at them. It was beautiful and glorious, as the golden colors worked their way through the white mist.
Thank You, Lord, for the gift of Your glory. I pray that it will shine on all people, that they will see You through Your handiwork, and rejoice. That they will sing Your praise. Thank You, Lord, for giving this joy to us.
Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation … while the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy? ~ Job 38:4, 7 NIV
But the joy didn’t stop there. The sky kept showing its beauty. As the day passed, the colors changed, and the clouds moved on, making way for a blue, peaceful horizon. Then, once more, a gift came. It turned out to be one of those WOW evenings that we often see in the fall. Colors I’m not sure I’ve ever seen before.
But no one says, Where is God my Maker, who gave songs in the night. ~ Job 35:10 NIV
Slowly the nightfall took over the darkness, but I could still see the clouds ever so lightly. The night moon shed its gentle light, and as I snuggled into bed, my prayers were lifted gently to God in peace. I fell asleep shepherded under the wings of our Savior, singing the songs of the night, and rejoicing that the God Who created the marshmallow clouds had created me as well.
I will not enter my house or go to my bed — I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids till I find a place for the Lord …. ~ Psalm 132:3-4 NIV
May we all sleep safely tonight, surrounded by God’s promises to be forever with us.
Amen.
