Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. ~ Psalm 90:12 NIV

Can you believe it? Summer is almost over. School starts in a matter of weeks. And no doubt most of us have said at some point this summer, “time is going too fast!”

It certainly does feel that way. Life carries us along faster and faster. Oh, to go back to the good old days.

Eating supper with all of the family there.

            Chasing fire flies after dark.

            Eating watermelon under the trees.

Taking a ride in the car to get ice cream for everybody — including the dog.

Attending Vacation Bible School, ending with a brown bag lunch at the park.

Lying in the grass, looking at the clouds, soaking up the sunshine.

Looking at God’s creation, worshipping Him on Sundays, studying His Word, PRAYING.

            And so much more.

I miss those things, and I’ve blamed the world for taking them away. Yet, I wonder ……  Did I help allow this to happen? Did I get caught up in all the activities the world was sending my way? An old saying comes to mind, “If the devil can’t make you bad, he will make you busy.”

And busy we are, always in a hurry.

Maybe it’s time to slow down. Look at the sky. Fly a kite. Roll in the grass. Spend time in prayer. Seek God’s wisdom. And thank the Lord for all He has given us, including the gift of His Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ.

May Jesus teach us to number our days with the activities that draw us closer to Him and give us hearts of wisdom.

Now, I’m going after a piece of watermelon and find a tree ……… Won’t you join me?
