A self-described bookish woman who loves words, she also loves encouraging other women and making them laugh. Through the years, she has had an extra large platform to do that as a founding speaker for the Women of Faith tour. In her words, she has ‘traipsed’ all over this continent and others during the past thirty-five years. Not bad for a woman who was once an agoraphobic and afraid to leave her house.
Patsy and her husband, Les, recently moved from her home state of Michigan to Tennessee. She says it fits her “like a cozy pair of cowgirl boots.”
Just as all good novels include a plot twist, our Author and Creator sometimes includes a twist in our lives, blessing us more than our original plan. Have you ever experienced such a “Divine Detour”?
Many times, I thought I would be a bookstore owner. Never did I think I would be an author, speaker and artist. All seemed out of my reach and then God created Divine Detours with my name on them.
It’s a place to rest your world weary mind and set aside your angst. Life is messy and unpredictable so having coping skills help. We are stronger and braver than we know.
What led you to write this particular book?
It is human nature to think “can’t” instead of “can” because of our fear. I want to be a voice—a cheerleader, for those who feel “less than” and are afraid. I have experienced personal despair and holy repair.
Please also tell us about “Shaking Your Tree.”
It’s a workshop on creativity and book writing from the stories within. We do creative assignments that shake loose stories to find their potential for our communications.
A few fun questions…
When the words aren’t flowing—or when you want to celebrate if they are—what is your favorite comfort food and why?
Dark Chocolate, Hagen Daz Chocolate Peanut-butter ice cream, Sonic Milkshake. All three delight my pallet and the mikeshake sets of a cascade of youth memories.
This website features musicians as well as writers. Do you have musical, as well as literary, talent?
I wrote the words to Mandisa’s lullaby for adults on her Grammy winning CD, the song is Cradle Me. Other than that I am musically scary!
In the story that is your life, are you the strong, female lead; the girl next door; the mysterious woman behind dark glasses; the super heroine; or the little girl trying to walk in high heels?
The little girl in high heels who is trying to be the lead. AWKWARD! My 5’ stature encourages me to keep reaching up.
I’m a dog lover. Please tell us about your pets, if any, or your favorite pet as a child.
When raising our two sons we always had dogs but now with my highly mobile lifestyle it doesn’t work and I miss a furry friend. Although I have two granddogs so that helps.
Thank you, Patsy! It’s an honor to have you as a guest at DivineDetour… and welcome to Tennessee!
